"The Educational Foundation scholarship I received as a high school senior got me started in the profession, encouraged my involvement, and gained my loyalty to the profession and the COCPA. Now is the time to invest in the best and brightest students to ensure a strong profession and COCPA in the future." - Clinton B. Randolph, CPA, CMA

"Overall, my scholarships represent ability-the ability for me to focus more on my academics and involvements within the College of Business and the community, and less on financial difficulties. The ability for me to finance my own way through school, earning a 4.0 GPA and graduating debt free. And the ability for me to become the first person in my family to earn not just one, but two college degrees." --

"Establishing a named scholarship has given me immense pleasure. It is my way of giving back to both the accounting profession and the wonderful state of Colorado, both of which have allowed me to reach my own lifetime goals." --

Mission

To promote accounting education in Colorado and support individuals and institutions engaged in its study and teaching.

Background Statement

Since 1958, the Educational Foundation of the Colorado Society of CPAs has been providing support to the best and brightest Colorado accounting students who want to become CPAs.

The Foundation awards scholarships based primarily on merit and the student's commitment to pursuing accounting as a career goal. The process involves completion of an application and submission of supporting materials such as essays, resumes, and grade transcripts, which the trustees review to select scholarship recipients.

Staff labor to carry out Foundation operations is donated by the Colorado Society of CPAs, keeping overhead costs low.

The Centennial Scholars Campaign of 2004 raised over $1 million for scholarship assistance and greatly enhanced the Foundation's ability to strengthen the profession for generations to come. In the past 10 years the Foundation has been able to take the scholarship size up to $2,500, award significantly more scholarships than in the past, and offer support to graduate-level students.

Even as the Foundation has made these great strides and helped more students succeed, tuition inflation and economic uncertainty have put education out of reach for many. Scholarship assistance has never been more necessary. Now a fifth year of study is required for those pursuing the CPA credential and accounting students will need extra resources to make that career commitment.

The Foundation encourages Colorado CPAs to give back to the profession by supporting the Foundation's program of financial assistance to students who will be the next generation of CPAs.
